(TheRedWire.com) – Kellyanne Conway, a former adviser of former President Donald Trump, suggested on Monday that the reason why Trump was opposed to attending the first Republican presidential primary debate is because he was trying to increase “suspense” during the lead-up.
Conway told Fox News that if she were in their position, she would keep the center podium warm as Trump may announce joining the presidential debate within the next few days. She added that they needed to find out whether or not he would join.
Trump has indicated that he was not in favor of being a part of the first Republican primary debate scheduled for Aug. 23, which will take place in Milwaukee. He has maintained that there was no reason to participate in the discussion due to his significant lead in the presidential race. In a previous interview with Fox News, he argued that there was no reason for someone with a percentage of up to 3 percent in the polls to ask him questions.
While acknowledging Trump’s points about not attending the debate, Conway also pointed out that the debate stage was a form of natural habitat for Trump, adding that because he was way ahead, he might not have much to gain. Still, initially, the primary presidential debates had managed to put him on the map in his 2016 presidential campaign, and this is something he has never lost.
