(TheRedWire.com) – Representative Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) slammed the suggestion that former President Trump was the victim of a “two-tiered” justice system following his indictment last week in connection to his alleged mishandling of classified materials.
Ocasio-Cortez told The Independent and argued that the suggestion of a “two-tiered justice system” where the person harmed is “one of the country’s most powerful and wealthy people” does not make sense. As she claimed, this argument did not hold “water” and that in the U.S., laws ensure that everyone is equal before the law. She added that it is also essential to distinguish that the President was being charged with crimes committed after he left the White House.
The indictment against Trump was unsealed on Friday. In the indictment, Trump was accused of retaining national defense information and possibly sharing that information with people who did not have the necessary security clearances. It is also argued that the former president had attempted to block the government from retrieving the classified materials found in his Mar-a-Lago home.
On Tuesday, Trump pleaded not guilty to all 37 counts during his appearance at a Miami court. Following his plea, Trump visited his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., where he delivered a speech slamming special counsel Jack Smith, whom he described as a “thug” who was brought in for “political hit jobs.”
Trump along with his allies has repeatedly argued that the Biden administration has weaponized federal law enforcement agencies and that the indictment was completely politically driven.
