(TheRedWire.com) – The Department of Energy released a new proposal that would decrease the existing water and energy use limits for dishwashers even further. The proposal would require that dishwashers use a maximum of 3.2 gallons of water per cycle. This is a steep decrease from the 5 gallons that the current requirements have set, with most dishwashers right now using 3.5 gallons per cycle or less. Apart from water manufacturers would also need to reduce the energy consumption of dishwashers by close to 30 percent.

The Department of Energy is not only focusing on dishwashers but it is also looking at other home equipment and considering new regulations for washers, dryers, and refrigerators. According to regulators, there is space for energy usage to be reduced in all of this machinery.

Earlier this year the Department of Energy in their release pointed out that these actions were part of President Biden’s climate agenda. Prior to the regulations for dishwashers being announced, there were also other proposed rules for gas stoves that the Department had pushed forth.

Many top Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, have argued that there is currently nothing for people to worry about, despite the fact that in his own state gas stoves were banned last week. This is despite Schumer putting out a tweet in February claiming that nobody would be “taking away your gas stove” despite what MAGA Republicans were trying to say as a distraction from the real issues that the nation was facing.

New York lawmakers however have already signed a ban on gas stove hookups in all future small buildings by 2025 and larger buildings by 2028.
