(TheRedWire.com) – Sen. Josh Hawley (R) from Missouri has pushed for President Joe Biden to deploy the National Guard to Columbia University in order to deal with the prolonged pro-Palestinian protest that is taking place on campus.

On Monday in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Hawley made a reference to former President “Eisenhower sent the 101st to Little Rock,” and that similarly, it was time for Biden to take action in order to keep Jewish Americans in college campuses’ safe.

On Sunday the White House criticized the “antisemitic” remarks that had been shouted during the protest and had pushed for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates had argued that all Americans had the right to a peaceful protest without needing to fear physical violence. He continued by arguing that those who were targeting the Jewish community and students were “antisemitic” and dangerous and that they did not belong to college campuses in the United States.

On Sunday the White House also released a written statement in which he stated that the government would be implementing a National Strategy to Counter Anti Semitism. That strategy was unveiled almost a year earlier.

Biden in his statement maintained that Israel continued to have “ironclad security.” He added that they needed to speak up against antisemitism in American communities, schools, and online. He continued by saying that this time of antisemitism was “dangerous” and that it did not belong on college campuses.
