(TheRedWire.com) – Following the Hamas attack on Israel, the Democrats are divided on how the U.S. should respond to the war between Israel and Hamas. Hamas, a Palestinian militant group launched a surprise attack against Israel in October. Following the attack  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel and Hamas were at war and proceeded to cut off supplies to fuel, medicine, electricity, and food.

The Democrats have been divided over what the United States’ response to the war should be. The tension within the party has been reaching a boiling point as the number of deaths in the Israel-Hamas war has reached 1,400 people in Israel and over 9,00 people in Gaza.

In response to the conflict, President Joe Biden expressed the country’s support for Israel and stated that the country had the right to defend itself after the attack. Still, Biden has warned the Israeli Prime Minister that they needed to take steps to ensure that the number of civilian deaths is mitigated. His administration has also been pushing for Congress to provide military aid to Israel.

However, there are many on the progressive side of the party who have been pushing for the president to call for a ceasefire. They have also argued that Biden has not done enough to ensure that there are fewer casualties in the region. Many have also opposed the longstanding support expressed by Washington for Israel, especially when considering the treatment of Palestinians by the Israeli government.

This division has become more tense are Democratic moderates and progressives have opposing views of the direction Congress should take.
