(TheRedWire.com) – On Sunday, DHS Sec. Mayorkas placed the blame for the immigration crisis on Congress, claiming that Congress members are not doing enough to assist.

Mayorkas has previously claimed the Biden administration was doing everything possible within a “broken immigration system.” He further remarked during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that currently there was an unprecedented “level of migration” they were seeing “throughout the hemisphere.” These claims were made only a couple of weeks after he had repeatedly claimed the “U.S. border is ‘secure’” before the House Homeland Security Committee.

According to Mayorkas, President Joe Biden “delivered a solution” to the migration crisis when he first started serving as President through his immigration reform legislation. He further blamed Congress for not acting faster to mitigate the crisis.

He added currently they were working “within the constraints of a broken immigration system” and they are still achieving a lot of things by creating lawful pathways for people to access humanitarian relief without having to make the dangerous trek to the border. He added they were also working to eliminate smuggling and that they were also working to deliver consequences to those who have arrived “in between ports of entry.”

Throughout his remarks, Mayorkas repeatedly tried to place the blame on the “completely broken immigration system,” and claimed that currently there is a backlog of more than 2 million immigration cases that continue to build.
