(TheRedWire.com) – Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is considering making a third-party presidential bid and will be making a final decision on whether she will join the 2024 presidential race within the next few months.

In an interview with The Washington Post, Cheney pointed out that years ago, she would have never considered joining the race as a third-party nominee; however, currently, democracy was at risk, and former President Donald Trump continued to have a strong grip on the GOP. As she argued, there were threats that the country was now facing that could cause problems in the United States’ existence, and the country needed to have a candidate who would be able to address all of those challenges. This is something that she will also take into account as part of her calculations as she heads into the early 2024 months.

Previously serving as the House Jan. 6 select committee vice chair, Cheney has been a vocal critic of Trump for years. The committee was focused on investigating the Capitol attack.

Cheney lost her seat in the House during the primary race in her state to a Trump-endorsed candidate. The former President is now running for a second term in office in 2024; he is currently the frontrunner for the Republican primary race.

Many have speculated that there is a possibility that Cheney will be joining the race as an independent candidate, especially as she has issued several warnings against a possible second Trump presidency.
