(TheRedWire.com) – A 34-year-old man from Oregon who is allegedly responsible for breaking a Speaker of the House sign during the Capitol attack on Jan. 6, 2021, has now been arrested according to authorities.
David Medina was first arrested on misdemeanor and felony charges according to an announcement on Friday by the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington. He is facing multiple misdemeanor charges, including entering and acting disorderly in a restricted area without the necessary authorization, and destroying government property.
In the court documents, it is noted that Medina had been identified in the open-source footage from the attack trying to break the wooden sign that is located above the office of the Speaker. In the video, it appears as if he is trying to break it and was even seen next to other rioters who were holding up the broken sign.
Following the attack authorities claimed that he had tried to “make light” of his presence during the Jan. 6 attack. In an FBI special agent’s affidavit and Twitter user post which included an Instagram Live clip from Medina’s account, the man had gone into explicit detail to describe his experience from the Capitol attack.
The affidavit mentions that Medina had said that there were these people who had broken into the Capitol and that he had walked in screaming “1776.” He added that they were not breaking stuff and windows, but that he had “kinda” broken the sign of the Speaker.
