(TheRedWire.com) – Claudia Conway, daughter of former Donald Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway, has slammed Trump over his recent “horrifying” social media posts about the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
Following the overturning of the landmark decision that had granted women the federal constitutional right to have abortions in 1973, many Republican-led states have adopted restrictive bans on abortion. The U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade with their decision in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case last June. The Dobbs v. Jackson case specifically noted that abortion policies should be determined by the state and its elected representatives. As soon as Roe was overturned many states had “trigger laws” that went into effect allowing them to regulate their abortion policies.
Most recently in April, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Heartbeat Protection Act [SB 300], which would ban all abortions after the six-week mark of pregnancy, or rather when the heartbeat is first detected.
Trump in his recent statement on Truth Social took all the credit for Roe v. Wade being overturned pointing out that there are three conservative justices currently sitting on the bench because of him. He added that had it not been for him, then there would be no abortion bans in any state.
Claudia Conway shared a screenshot of Trump’s post on her Twitter account and questioned how it was possible that the country has turned so backward that conservative men get to decide the bodily autonomy of women. She added that less than 1 percent of abortions occur in the third trimester, and it is usually because the fetus is no longer viable, or because the mother’s health is in danger.
