(TheRedWire.com) – Last week, protesters in California tried to stop the departure of a military ship that was going to carry supplies to Israel. The protest was organized by the Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC), and according to what they revealed to local news outlets, there were almost 1,000 people who had participated in the protest.

Following the October 7 attack by Hamas against Israel, President Joe Biden expressed complete support for Israel and vowed to provide military aid and funds to the country. The surprise attacks by Hamas resulted in more than 1,400 Israelis losing their lives. In retaliation, the Israeli government has been launching air strikes on Gaza. Israel’s war against Hamas resulted in the death of more than 9,000 Palestinians, while thousands of others have been displaced or wounded.

Social media footage from the protest at the Port of Oakland shows the protestors chanting in support of Palestine. They are also calling for Israel to stop its ground attack on Gaza. Some people could also be seen climbing on the containers while others attempted to attack themselves on the ship.

A spokesperson for the Oakland Police Department (OPD) stated that the department was monitoring the situation at the port and that they were in collaboration with the Port of Oakland and the United States Coast Guard. They further added that there have not been any arrests made yet.

AROC, in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, from Friday, further stated that they were saying “no to military aid to Israel.”
