(TheRedWire.com) – President Joe Biden is facing a lot of criticism from progressive Democrats whose support had previously been integral in helping him win the 2024 general election. The tension has been growing between the progressives and the Biden administration, as many of them are upset with Biden’s handling of the war between Israel and Hamas. However, as the GOP is pushing for more border security, progressives are also shifting their focus to the immigration policy followed by the president.
Biden has been pushing for additional aid to be sent to Ukraine as they continue to fight their war against Ukraine. However, to gain the necessary support and backing for Ukraine, Biden will need to appease the Congress GOP as they have been predominantly worried about the southern border and not about supporting Ukraine.
The Congress GOP has been clear about thinking that there needed to be important changes to immigration before they could vote in favor of more spending on Ukraine. The negotiations for a border security package are currently underway, with some people calling for the revival of the temporary expulsion authority that had been granted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Washington Representative Pramila Jayapal (D) warned that if Biden did not pay more attention to progressives, he could lose the support of an important part of his party. She added that it had always been challenging for them to pay the necessary attention to their base, which includes people of color, young people, and immigrants. She further pointed out that it was these demographics that had enabled President Biden’s election.
