(TheRedWire.com) – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) informed The Hill during an interview that he thought that the Biden administration’s failure to stop the surge in migrant crossings across the U.S.-Mexico border was a “huge issue.” He added that this was an issue that was going to be central in the 2024 presidential campaigns.

McConnell did not make any comments about the Republicans losing a House seat in New York’s 3rd Congressional District. However, he did point out that the election had shown that the border was an important issue which has been mishandled by President Biden. He added that in the presidential race, this was going to be a huge issue.

The Republican leaders saw Congressional candidates trying to find a winning position to solve this issue, however as he pointed out the Democrats would continue to use against the GOP the failure of the bipartisan border security deal. He added that both sides would be arguing over who was in favor of securing the U.S. border and that this was exactly what had happened in the New York race.

However, as he pointed out in the presidential race, this is something that President Biden has made a big mistake on, which is going to turn into a key issue in the 2024 race.

In Tuesday’s special election, former Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.) had won the race for the seat that former Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) had been ousted for. One of Suozzi’s key arguments related to the GOP having tanked the bipartisan deal that would have helped secure the U.S. border.
