(TheRedWire.com) – Former President Donald Trump, who is the presumptive GOP nominee for 2024, seized the chance to slam special counsel Jack Smith’s office after they admitted to mishandling the classified documents that are central to the case against Trump about mishandling classified information.
On Friday, Smith’s office made a court filing noting that the documents seized in August 2022 from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate are no longer in the same order they had previously said. Prosecutors noted that the documents currently are not located in the same order as before. That is even though the office had previously claimed that the boxes of documents had remained in their original form.
Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social to slam Smith’s office for this latest information. As he argued it had been clear from the start that the “Documents Case” that had been brought forward against him was nothing but an attempt to interfere with the election from President Joe Biden, Smith, and their group of thugs. He pointed out that now Smith has admitted in a court filing to Judge Cannon that he and his team had tampered with the evidence by mishandling the boxes they had used as a “pretext” to bring forward this “Fake Case.”
Prosecutors had made this latest concession after co-defendant Waltine “Walt” Nauta’s legal team requested a delay as they were having trouble locating some of the documents in the 33 boxes that the FBI had seized. Prosecutors noted that there were some boxes where the order of the items was not consistent with one in the associated scans. In the footnote, they also note that the government acknowledged that this was inconsistent with what they had previously presented to the court to be the case regarding the placement of these documents.
