Lab-Grown Meat Gets Banned

Feds Find Something in Trump's Storage Unit, Won't Leave Him Alone

(TheRedWire.com) – On Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed a new bill that prohibits lab-grown meat in a move that as he proclaimed would help “save our beef.”

In a press release on the same day as the bill signing DeSantis argued that Florida was pushing back against the global elite who were looking to get the world to consume meat that has been grown in a petri dish. He pointed out that his administration was going to continue being committed to assisting ranchers and local farmers and saving “our beef.”

S.B. 1084, the bill in question makes it illegal for people to manufacture, distribute, or sell lab-grown meat within the state. This is the first such legislation in the country according to Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson (R). Simpson has also supported this move in a press release arguing that it was a step in the correct direction.

Simpson continued by pointing out that it was crucial for them to protect American agriculture and farmers, and that lab-grown meat was undermining the traditions of authentic agriculture.

Good Meat, a company which notes on its website as being the first to be selling “cultivated meat” has argued that the decision by DeSantis to sign the bill into law was disappointing. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter the company noted that in a state which claimed to be a land of freedom. Still, it appeared now that the government was making a choice for consumers to limit the type of meat that they are able to purchase.
