(TheRedWire.com) – Former Vice President Mike Pence slammed former President Donald Trump for choosing not to attend the second Republican primary debate. During his interview on CBS News on Monday, Pence argued that this was a “missed opportunity” for both Trump and Republican voters. Pence is currently running against Trump in the 2024 Republican primary race.

In the interview, Pence argued that the country was in trouble and weakened by President Joe Biden. He added that everyone trying to secure the Republican nomination owes it to the American people to showcase their agenda and how they would work to turn around the country’s trajectory.

On Tuesday, Trump’s campaign confirmed that rather than attending the second presidential debate, Trump would be delivering a speech in front of autoworkers. Previously, Trump had also skipped the first Republican debate. At the time, he had stated that there was no reason for him to attend the debate as he was currently leading the presidential race by a lot. He had further argued that Fox News Channel, which was hosting the debate, was hostile to him and was not going to assist him in boosting his ratings.

Pence also commented on Trump’s recent remarks against the 6-week abortion ban, arguing that in 2016, Trump had promised to govern the country as a conservative, which is what he had done at the time. However, this did not appear to be his intention, so he was not making such a promise now.
