(TheRedWire.com) – This year former President Donald Trump attacked many of the Republican House members who have decided to resign as they have further threatened the already thin GOP majority in the House.

On Sunday Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social to state that these Representatives were “cowards and weaklings” who should not be forgotten. He added that this was a “disgrace.” Trump’s post has come as a response to an article that discussed outgoing Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.).

However, Trump’s remarks were not just meant for Gallagher but also for former Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) who had also opted to resign from Congress early. Buck resigned last week with his replacement meant to come in June, while Gallagher who is going to be resigning in mid-April is going to leave his seat open with a replacement only coming in next January.

The vacancies that have been left in the lower chamber have meant that currently, the Republican House majority amounts to one single person. This is going to make it significantly harder for the Republicans to pass any legislation along party lines. There have also been some speculations that if GOP members opt to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) then it could result in Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) becoming the next House Speaker.

Trump is not the only GOP member to have slammed Gallagher for his decision, especially as his resignation comes in alignment with the Wisconsin law that ensures that his seat will be empty until January rather than having a special election held.
