(TheRedWire.com) – The White House has criticized the House GOP over their decision to have the first hearing in their impeachment inquiry only days before the government’s funding deadline. They further noted that the inquiry against President Joe Biden was a “political stunt” and pointed out that the probe had no evidence.

The first impeachment inquiry hearing has been scheduled for September 28 and will relate to the allegations of corruption surrounding the President. However, the White House has not placed much importance on the trial, arguing that they were just using the inquiry as a distraction.

Congress has until September 30 to pass a resolution extending the government’s funding. If they fail to do so, then the government could partially shut down.

Ian Sams, the White House spokesperson, noted that the House GOP was using the hearing as a distraction to hide their inability to govern and their decisions’ effect on the country. He added that the “political stunt hearing” was scheduled only a few days before the funding deadline, which showed that their priority was attacking Biden rather than preventing a government shutdown.

Sams further pointed out that a government shutdown would harm both national security and the economy and put the government’s efforts to provide disaster relief and combat the fentanyl crisis at risk. Still, he claimed that the House GOP hoped this distraction would help divert the attention away from the negative effects of their extreme agenda.
